A jury selects artists-in-residence on a yearly basis. The next deadline for applications is February 20, 2017.
The jury will meet and inform all applicants of their application status by the end of March. Residencies will be awarded for Summer 2017 through the first half of 2018. We receive a large number of applications and regret that we cannot offer every applicant an Artist in Residence position at Central Library. If you have specific questions about the application process, please email gallery director Trent Miller at tmiller (at) madisonpubliclibrary.org.
Below is the application for our Artist in Residence program at the Bubbler at Madison Public Library. A jury will make a selection of finalists, who will then be invited for an in-person interview for the residency program. The Bubbler is a maker-focused program for all ages offering hands-on workshops and events from community experts. Our Artists in Residence are a fundamental part of Bubbler programming, providing opportunities to learn, share, and create in their special field.
Unsure if you qualify? Are you a maker? Do you want to share your skills and artistic vision with the Madison community? We are eager and open to new ideas and would love to hear about what you do.
We offer a monthly stipend in the residency, but are unable to accommodate travel costs and housing for visiting artists. Our current stipend is $800 per month, funding dependent, with some additional resources for supply costs. Residencies last anywhere from 1-3 months.
As a part of the residency, we request that artists spend at least two days per week in the Bubbler Room as a studio space. Secure storage is available, but the Bubbler is open during all library hours for the public to learn and create. We ask all artists to plan at least two workshops in each month of the residency. These can be for a specific age groups or open for all.
Please feel free to ask any questions in your application and one of the Bubbler team will get back to you as soon as possible. Looking forward to making with you!
*Previous Artists-In-Residence are welcome to apply, but preference will be given to first time artists. There must be at least a 2 year gap between residencies for any returning artists-in-residence.
