ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Rodney Lambright II
is an illustrator, animator, and writer whose main focus is storytelling. Rodney graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Art and Communication Arts (TV, Radio, and Film,) but would still consider most of the skills he’s obtained as an artist as self taught, as school served more as a place that sparked his mind to further investigate his craft. Currently he works as an Animator and Producer at Wisconsin Public TV where he has worked on several animated shorts, documentaries, and more recently video games. He has always gravitated to cartoons; using it as a vehicle to express honest narratives that expand beyond the reality that we see in front of us.

The subject matter that surrounds Rodney’s work usually explores the depths of the individuals perceptions and how they affect their outlook on life; while at the same time trying to question binary thinking and investigate the grey areas of life. The world of cartoons presents itself as a place of endless possibilities; to stretch reality beyond it limitation, which Rodney enjoys to play with within his works. Growing up on Cartoon Network's cartoons, anime series on Toonami and Adult Swim sparked his mind at a young age and continues to feed his passion around watching and creating cartoons. Explore some of Rodney’s past and present work below.

ABOUT THE RESIDENCY: Unwanted Sympathy

Unwanted Sympathy is an exhibition that Rodney Lambright II, is currently working on, about interpersonal investigation, of our psychological traumas, embedded within our unconscious minds. Theses are the realities we create to cope with pain, the manner in which we express emotion, and the ways in which we see through our own perception.
In this residency we will be focus on honing that energy to develop unique stories within the mediums of comics and animation. We will start by becoming exposed to surreal cartoons and anime tv shows/films that take us beyond our own reality, to a place that only cartoons can. We will breakdown the different elements of comics and animation by understanding how they are made through, world building, narrative creation, character design, storyboarding, medium exploration and much more. So please come join Rodney Lambright II, as he works on his exhibition and come learn more about the work he does as a illustrator, animator and storyteller.
