Turn The Page: How to Build a Better Poem

  • Sequoya Public Library 4340 Tokay Blvd Madison (map)

In this three-week class, students will work with poet Rita Mae Reese to focus on one of the most important elements in poetry—the turn. What does this mean and what are the options for turns within a poem? What structures might be best suited to your own work? We’ll tackle these and other questions as we read and listen to some classic and contemporary poems. Each week we’ll also do an exercise that focuses on particular types of turns. This class is for anyone interested in writing poetry—no experience necessary. This is a three session class that meets on July 15, July 29, and August 12.
