HISTORY OF THE MEMORY CLOTH CIRCLE

The Memory Cloth Circle evolved from the 2013 MMOCA Triennial as a Relational Art project at Lakeside Coffee House. People were invited to tell stories and embroider their memories. It was fun and meaningful, so the group has continued ever since. At various exhibits they provide materials and invite people to join in the process.

A group named Amazwi Abesifazane (meaning Voices of Women) started making Memory Cloths in South Africa to give voice to their experiences of Apartheid. After hearing about the group here in Madison they were asked to share the process in the US.

WORKSHOPS IN THE BUBBLER
Join the Memory Cloths Circle members throughout the month of July to explore your own experiences and memories through creating your own Memory Cloth with materials and supplies as unique as you. All workshops are held in the Bubbler Room, no registration needed and all ages and abilities welcome!
