Memory Cloth Project

June - July 2017

The Memory Cloth Circle evolved from the 2013 MMoCA Triennial as a Relational Art project at Lakeside Coffee House. People were invited to tell stories and embroider their memories. It was fun and meaningful, so the group has continued ever since. At various exhibits they provide materials and invite people to join in the process, and the Bubbler was thrilled to have the group in residence in July 2017 to offer a series of workshops. Their inspiration comes from a group named Amazwi Abesifazane (meaning Voices of Women), which started making Memory Cloths in South Africa to give voice to their experiences of Apartheid.
