William del Moral

September - November 2023 at Sequoya Public Library

You breathe. I breathe. We breathe. The concept this exhibition is attempting to invoke is a communication and expansion of the awareness of “being” with you, dear viewer. Sometimes the attempted communication is through the use of my voice to speak directly to you. Other times it is the voice and message of the “unknown,” the “ancestor,” and the “ forgotten family.” We are the fantastical stories and dreams of our ancestors made real and true.

I share these images with you, dear viewer, in hopes that one of them speaks to you and helps you connect with yourself in a new or even an old, forgotten way. —William del Moral

About:

William Miguel del Moral is a visual artist whose primary medium is acrylic on canvas. He was born in Puerto Rico and has lived in southern Wisconsin since he was 10 years old. Raised in Milwaukee, William began creating art as a young man, and formally studied at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he received his BFA in 1995. He received a Master’s degree in Art Therapy from Mount Mary College in 2005. Since moving to Madison in 2000, he has sought to create and use art as a healing practice.

He paints brightly-colored and complex images that use multiple layers and techniques on each canvas to reflect various aspects of his life experiences and influences. William’s work has been shown in Madison, Milwaukee, and Phoenix, Arizona, and he features his work at the Latino Art Fair in Madison. After many years of working as an Art Therapist, William has ventured into painting full time in his 4 Lights Art Studio.
