Ariel Wood
A Point in Between
February - March 2019
Ariel Wood’s current body of work explores the duality of solitude and companionship by challenging and dismantling definitions of comfort and intimacy. The role of history and memory, and presence and absence, fosters acceptance of the inevitability of loss—and its resulting growth.
Wood’s motifs of beds, sheets and pillows are elaborated into installations, sculptures, and paintings in which skin-like surfaces and bedding meld into each other in disturbing yet subtle malleability. Sculptural form and painterly articulation generate a cross-media conversation and meditation on how we relate to each other.
