Juneteenth
On June 19, 1865, enslaved persons in Texas learned they were free; two years after the emancipation proclamation had been signed. This federal holiday recognizes the history, contributions and resilience of African Americans in our country. For the 2023 celebration, we joined our cityβs event in Penn Park, presented by the Kujichagulia Madison Center for Self-Determination.
